Governor Mike DeWine signed an emergency measure Thursday morning passed by the state legislature the day before.
And with that, the state taxes on both gasoline and diesel fuel will be suspended for three months, starting Sunday.
The Senate voted 26 to 5 on Wednesday for the Gas Tax Holiday.
The House followed up with 78 to 16 approval.
Both major-party candidates for governor asked for the tax break.
It’s 38 1/2 cents on a gallon of gas and 47 cents on diesel.
It’s not certain if that tax reduction will be fully passed along to drivers.
Thursday morning, the AAA average for gasoline in the Mahoning Valley was $4.13, down another nickel.
Diesel was going for $6.61.
Across Ohio, the AAA average for gas was $4.20.
*Earlier versions were incorrect about the start time of the suspension. We apologize for the error.
