The NTSB is raising concerns about the Ohio Turnpike toll plaza in Newton Township and three others across Ohio.
They believe a deadly 2024 crash near the Swanton toll plaza near the west end of the roadway could have been avoided if the turnpike used all open-road electronic tolling.
The four plazas are hybrids, with drivers also able to slow down, move to the right and even stop and pay a toll with cash or credit.
That deadly 2024 accident was caused when an SUV pulled in front of a semi, trying to get to the low-speed lanes.
