Former Chief Fails to Get Job Back

The city of Warren’s Civil Service Commission has unanimously determined that former city Police Chief Eric Merkel should not get his job back.

Merkel had resigned in July.

He wanted to rescind that decision, saying a pressure campaign based on allegations made by a city employee initially forced his hand.

The commission believes he left the city voluntarily.
