Trumbull and Mahoning Counties were among the hardest hit by severe weather yesterday, at least in terms of power outages: at one point, 9600 Edison customers were out in Mahoning County and 8500 in Trumbull… The Regional Airport weather station recorded a 63 miles an hour wind gust… Traffic on I-80 was impacted and nearby Salt Springs Road in Weathersfield Township was closed two separate times for downed wires…. A shed in a Girard backyard was also reportedly destroyed… At last check at 7 a.m., under 100 Edison customers in Trumbull County were still in the dark.
After being closed for more than 15 years, there’s new life proposed for the former Ohio Welcome Center on I-80 in Hubbard Township: ODOT plans a 38-space truck parking facility with a “modular” restroom building structure, for construction in 2026… They are taking comments.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day: it’s also fair to warn you that too much happiness may lead to an encounter with the law: the state patrol is teaming up with law enforcement to put more officers on roadways, watching for impaired drivers… Between 2020 and last year, troopers made 311 Saint Patrick’s Day OVI arrests, and there were 213 impaired-related crashes in that period, some fatal.
