A corrections officer at a state prison facility south of Columbus was killed by an inmate yesterday, Christmas Day: the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction says Ross County Correctional Institution Officer Andrew Lansing was assaulted by the inmate, who has been moved to another facility… The director of the department called the Christmas killing a “tragedy beyond comprehension”; the state patrol has the facility under restricted movement.
The busy Ohio deer gun portion of the deer season continued into last Saturday and Sunday’s Bonus Weekend: over 17,000 deer were harvested during those two days, a 12-percent increase over last year… With snow on the ground, Ashtabula County topped the list at 580 deer reported… Most hunters report using a straight-walled cartridge rifle.
